Walking the Footsteps of Ibn Battuta

In the 14th century, the famous Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta documented his visits to Kinolhas, which he referred to as "Kannalus." His accounts highlight the island's historical importance as a vital safe harbor for Indian Ocean travelers. He was deeply impressed by the island's natural beauty and its abundance of "high trees." During a return visit in 1346, he was received with great honor by the island's chief, Abd al-Aziz al-Maqdishawi. His writings establish that Kinolhas was a significant and welcoming entry point for international traders and explorers.
