Welcome to Kinolhas, a hidden emerald tucked away in the North Maalhosmadulu (Raa) Atoll. Far from the crowded tourist trails, our island invites you to experience a rare side of the Maldives where timeless heritage, vibrant ecosystems, and deeply rooted community values blend seamlessly. Kinolhas is a hospitable, 54-hectare tropical island located 120km from Male'. Shaped like a whale shark when viewed from above, the island is known for its lush palm trees, white sandy beaches, and turquoise lagoon. It can be reached from Male' via speedboat, seaplane, or domestic flight, followed by a short local boat transfer. The Raajje Transport Link (RTL), Atoll Ferry Boat serves as a budget-friendly, steady option for traveling between nearby local islands. Local Speedboats are available for hire, ideal for quick, flexible, and direct trips to neighboring islands or resorts.

Walking the Footsteps of Ibn Battuta
In the 14th century, the famous Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta documented his visits to Kinolhas, which he referred to as "Kannalus." His accounts highlight the island's historical importance as a vital safe harbor for Indian Ocean travelers. He was deeply impressed by the island's natural beauty and its abundance of "high trees." During a return visit in 1346, he was received with great honor by the island's chief, Abd al-Aziz al-Maqdishawi. His writings establish that Kinolhas was a significant and welcoming entry point for international traders and explorers.
